How Minecraft storage math works
Every container in Minecraft is measured in slots, and each slot holds one stack. How many items a slot holds depends on the item: 64 for most blocks, 16 for a handful of items, and just 1 for tools, armor and other unstackables. So the first step is always items ÷ stack size, rounded up, to get slots.
The formula

double chests = ⌈slots ÷ 54⌉

Tips for big builds
- Count in shulker boxes. For mega builds, think in shulkers: 1,728 blocks each. A 100 × 100 floor is 10,000 blocks, about 6 shulker boxes.
- Ender chests travel with you. Your ender chest holds 27 more slots, and filling it with shulker boxes multiplies what you can carry.
- Barrels pack tighter. Barrels hold the same 27 slots as a chest but can sit side by side and stack without blocking each other.

Most blocks and items stack to 64. Some stack to 16: ender pearls, snowballs, eggs, signs, empty buckets, banners and armor stands, among others. Tools, weapons, armor, potions and filled buckets don't stack at all (1 per slot).

A shulker box has 27 slots, the same as a single chest. With 64-stack items that's 1,728 items. A full double chest of shulker boxes (54 boxes) holds 93,312 items.

A double chest has 54 slots, so it holds 3,456 items that stack to 64, or 864 items that stack to 16.
How many stacks are in a player inventory?
The main inventory has 36 slots (27 plus the 9-slot hotbar), so a full inventory carries 2,304 items that stack to 64. Armor and offhand slots are extra but only hold specific items.
Can I put a shulker box inside a shulker box?
No. Shulker boxes can't be placed inside other shulker boxes, but they can go in chests, barrels and ender chests, which is how players move huge amounts of items.
